verdure

The greenery ("verdure" in French) scenes were popular from the 16th until the 18th century. One of the largest collection of Verdures are located now Krakow, Poland. Originally commissioned by King Sigismund-Augustus of Poland, these pieces were produced in the 16th century when the art of weaving was at its peak in Flanders. This unique collection of Flemish tapestries is now in the Wawel castle in Krakow. These impressive pieces, in which gold threads were used to depict the designs, feature among the finest of tapestries woven during this period.
