In ancient Greece, Apollo was the God of the arts, archery, and divination. His symbols were a bow, a lyre and a laurel. This is one of six tapestries in the Triumph of Apollo series, this scene depicts Apollo among the Muses, resting on Heiicon with representatives of literature and history. The original tapestry was produced in the Leyniers workshop in the early part of the eightteenth century and designed by Barend Van Orley, assisted by Augustin Coppens.
