The Brussels workshops drew inspiration from a prestigious series "Histoire du Roi", created by Charles Le Brun and by the Flemish painter Der Meulun between 1665 and 1680, which celebrates the conquests and victories of the 'Sun King' Louis 14th. This series does not evoke particular battles but rather the current activities of marching armies of this time.
